Former US President Donald Trump last Wednesday criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, pointing out that the military-political leadership of the Jewish state needs to “correct the situation” after attacks by Hamas militants, CNN reported on October 12.
Speaking at a campaign event in West Palm Beach, Florida, Trump expressed sympathy for Israel, calling the country a “blessing to the world” and calling on political leaders there to unite against Hamas.
“When I see intelligence sometimes, you talk about intelligence or you talk about some of the things that went wrong like they did last week, they have to fix it because they’re potentially fighting against a very big force,” Trump mused on to the public.
The former White House occupant then rather unexpectedly spoke about the US drone strike in early 2020 that killed a senior Iranian military commander (General Qassem Soleimani, then commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. — Ord.), and said that Netanyahu “failed us” by not helping the US in this mission.
“I will never forget that Bibi Netanyahu failed us. It was a very terrible thing, I will say that,” Trump said, claiming that the Israeli prime minister was “trying to take responsibility” for the operation after the fact.
Next, Trump, considered the main favorite of the Republican Party in the US presidential elections in 2024, moved on to his usual criticism of the current American administration, blaming his political opponent, the president, for the current war in Israel Joe Biden.
“Under my leadership, the world was peaceful and calm because America was respected… With dishonest Joe Biden, we have chaos, bloodshed, war, terror and death,” Trump fumed. — Joe Biden came and threw Israel onto the path of bloodthirsty jihad. Look what’s happening today.”
The Biden administration responded by saying Trump was spreading “dangerous misinformation” about the crisis in Israel at a time when allies “must stick together.”
