Donald Trump Calls Jean Carroll “Mentally Ill” in Rape Trial Testimony

The writer Jean Carrollwhich complaint to Donald Trump for rape and defamation, is a person “mentally ill”according to the statement that the former US president gave before Judge Lewis Kaplan in 2022 and that was released today as part of the case documents.

The trial that is being followed against Trump for both accusations has already entered its final stretch, and the two parties are expected to present their final arguments to the jury next Monday, unless at the last minute Trump decides to appear and testify, a decision that he could make until Sunday afternoon but that seems unlikely.

In Trump’s 100-page testimony before Kaplan, the former president repeatedly denies the episode of the rape in a department store fitting room as “pure fiction,” insisting that Carroll made it all up: “I think she is mentally ill – she repeats the word “sick” on many occasions – there is something strange about this woman.”

Trump also insists that he had no relationship with Carroll: “I still don’t know that woman. I think she is a nutcase. I have no idea. I don’t know anything about that woman beyond what I’ve read in history or what I’ve heard,” she insists.

And when the judge presents him with a photograph of him together with Carroll and other people, he defends himself by arguing that it was one of those social events in which he could shake hands with hundreds of people without it implying that there was a personal relationship.

The judge asks him to reaffirm other statements he has made in the past about Carroll, such as when he said that he was not his type, to which he replies: “He was never my type in any way, shape or form.”

To discredit the writer’s account, Trump recalls that at the time the events occurred he was “always” accompanied by security personnel who could have confirmed or denied the events and that he was also then “well known, to put it mildly”which according to him underpins the falsity of the facts.

It refers to the detail that the alleged violation occurred in a well-known department store at a time when -according to the complainant- there was no other person on the floor where both were.

“This is the most ridiculous and disgusting story I have ever heard”he says, and also insists on the fact that Carroll could never give a specific date of the events: “You cannot give a date because you have no idea when it happened because it did not happen,” he emphasizes.

Throughout the two weeks that the trial has lasted, Trump’s defense has renounced presenting witnesses and has dedicated itself to questioning the credibility of Carroll and that of other witnesses provided by the prosecution, also insisting on the fact that that the writer kept the alleged rape a secret until she published a book in 2019 in which she recounted that incident.
