Donald Trump Brags at Fundraiser: “One More Impeachment to Close Out This Election”

Donald Trump bragged at a 2024 campaign fundraiser in Alabama that he needs “one more impeachment to close out this election.”

Former President Trump, just a day after his third court appearance Thursday as a defendant in a criminal case, delivered a speech filled with defiance and bravado on Friday night, insulting prosecutors and declaring that the charges he faces only help his 2024 presidential campaign.

Trump pleaded not guilty Thursday to crimes related to his efforts to overturn the results of his 2020 election loss.

Although this is his third criminal indictment this year, this case is his most serious, as the federal government accused him of orchestrating a plan to block the peaceful transfer of power.

“Every time they file an impeachment, we go up a lot in the polls,” Trump said at a Republican Party dinner in Alabama. “We need one more indictment to close this election. One more indictment, and this election is closed. Nobody even has a chance.”

“Many of these cases (…) could have been filed two and a half years ago. But they didn’t want to introduce them two and a half years ago, they wanted to wait. (…) And they waited until I became the dominant force in the polls, because we are dominating them all,” the Republican said to a cheering audience.

Trump joked that every time he is impeached he goes up in the polls, and He said he only needs a fourth indictment to win the 2024 election.

And it is that the former president seems unbeatable in his bid to win the Republican nomination for the 2024 elections, in which he hopes to face the current Democratic president Joe Biden, leading all the vote intention polls for the Republican Party primaries.

Trump focused a large part of his criticism precisely on Biden and his family, repeating a string of accusations of corruption that is already common in his speeches, and he promised again that, if he comes to power, he will order an investigation of the Democrat.

“He’s a corrupt, incompetent thief, and he shouldn’t be allowed to be president,” he said, further accusing some Republicans of being “weak assholes.”

Trump’s third indictment charges him with trying to reverse the 2020 election result he lost to Biden and instigating the 2021 storming of the Capitol.

The other criminal proceedings open against him: in March he was charged in New York with 34 counts of falsifying business records for payments to the porn actress Stormy Daniels to hide the “affair” they had, and in June he was charged in court of Miami (Florida) of 37 federal offenses for withholding and concealing classified documents in his personal residence.

Trump has continued to receive support from GOP elected officials throughout the investigations and criminal cases.
