Trump, who is accused along with 18 other people of trying to influence the outcome of the 2020 presidential election in Georgia, spent less than half an hour in the Fulton County Jail in Atlanta before leaving for the airport in a motorcade.
Trump, 77, went through the traditional arrest process. He was searched and photographed and fingerprinted in prison. His height (1.9 meters), weight (97 kilograms), eye color and hair color were recorded.

Trump was indicted on 13 counts.
The arrest process was quick because Trump and his lawyers had previously negotiated bail conditions with investigators.
The agreement stipulates that the defendant may not intimidate other defendants and witnesses in this case, or otherwise interfere with legal proceedings. Trump is expressly prohibited from using social media to attack defendants and witnesses.
Speaking to reporters after his brief arrest, Trump said it was a “very sad day for America” and accused his political opponents, Democrats, of “meddling in the election.”
“What happened here is a travesty of justice. I haven’t done anything wrong,” Trump said.
The criminal case filed in Fulton County, Georgia is the first in which Trump’s release conditions include bail and a ban on using social media to intimidate defendants and witnesses.
Trump’s indictment in Georgia follows a two-year investigation into a January 2021 phone call with the state’s top election official in which Trump said he wanted enough votes to be found to change the state’s election results.
