Donald Trump and Melania Trump launch new website “45office”

President Donald Trump and his wife Melania have launched a brand new website that will “safeguard the wonderful legacy of the Trump administration.”

It comes just over three months after Trump was banned from several of the largest social media platforms, and is apparently an attempt to establish greater contact with supporters in the wake of this.

Among other things, visitors can “share their thoughts” with Trump and former First Lady Melania, and have the opportunity to request bookings for the couple for their own events, as well as personal greetings.

The site has been given the address “45office.com”, referring to Trump’s place in the ranks of US presidents.

Omit the fades

Whether the former presidential couple will charge for these services, and what the price will be in that case, nothing is said about. However, it is not uncommon to former presidents receive juicy sums to attend or speak at various events.

In a familiar style, Trump confidently goes out, claiming in the first section of the website’s info page that during his presidency “he launched the most extraordinary political movement in history, overthrew political dynasties, fought the establishment in Washington”, and became the first real outsider to occupy the White House.

However, it says nothing about the two Supreme Court cases against him, the covid-19 handling which led to over half a million deaths, the storming of Congress which rounded off the politically turbulent four-year term in which Trump was president of the United States.

Instead, the website refers to the pandemic as “the coronavirus plague from China”, and it is emphasized that Trump “saved countless lives” by closing the borders to the country and Europe at an early stage.

– Will shape the story

US expert and NORCE researcher Hilmar Mjelde is not surprised by the way Trump describes himself on the recent website, but says that the omission of the many scandals speaks for itself.

– Presidents always try to shape the history of their presidency. They do this primarily by writing a book and by building their own museum, so-called “presidential libraries”. That is the same thing Trump is doing here, he tells Dagbladet.

“That Trump omits so many and major incidents is in itself an implicit recognition of how serious and blaming they were,” he said.

Believes the influence decreases

Mjelde believes Trump is in a class of his own in the ranks of American presidents, and doubts that he will be able to maintain his political influence in the future.

– Trump will be remembered as the worst president in history. He dethrones James Buchanan and Andrew Johnson by a good margin, he says, and continues:

– This is because Trump tried for a coup after the election defeat, and left the pandemic crisis to the states. In both cases, he did the exact opposite of what presidents should do in such situations.

In January, Trump’s profiles were removed from both Twitter, YouTube and Facebook, in response to the attack on Congress in which six people lost their lives.

– Trump is losing relevance now that he has resigned. He will have to fight to retain control of the party. He can not surf on dissatisfaction with the 2020 election until 2024, Mjelde believes.

Is Donald Trump done?

– Yes, I think Trump gave himself a red card with his grotesque behavior after the 2020 election. There are enough talented leadership leaders in the party who should rather be given an arm blow until 2024, he concludes.
