Donald Glover Offers Community Movie Update at New York Premiere

Donald Glover, the renowned actor and musician, has recently provided an exciting update on the much-anticipated Community movie. Speaking to ET’s Rachel Smith during the New York premiere of Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Glover shared that the long-awaited project is still very much in progress, with the script fully completed.
Despite not yet receiving the script himself, Glover expressed his enthusiasm and full commitment to the project. Having risen to fame through his portrayal of Troy Barnes on the show, Glover wholeheartedly stated, “It’s really just a schedule thing, but I’m in. I’m all in.”
Years of Fan Anticipation
The Community movie, a production that fans have eagerly anticipated for nearly a decade, was announced by Peacock in September 2022, finally beginning the realization of a fan campaign that sought closure for the beloved comedy series. The film aims to reunite key cast members, including Joel McHale, Gillian Jacobs, Danny Pudi, Alison Brie, Jim Rash, and Ken Jeong, along with the series’ original creator, Dan Harmon. McHale and Andrew Guest have also taken on executive production roles for the much-anticipated movie. Furthermore, Peacock has successfully acquired the entire Community series library for their streaming service.
From Cheeky Line to an Epic Comedy
The phrase “six seasons and a movie” initially emerged from Community’s early seasons and swiftly garnered immense support from passionate fans. This line eventually inspired a complete movement that championed the movie’s realization. Susan Rovner, the Chairman of Entertainment Content at NBCUniversal, expressed the network’s gratitude, affirming that 15 years later, they are truly delivering the promised movie. Rovner added that they are excited to collaborate with the creative minds of Dan Harmon, Andrew Guest, Joel McHale, Sony, and UTV, continuing the extraordinary comedic journey for Peacock audiences.
Glover’s Role in the Community Movie
Interestingly, it was Donald Glover himself who originally pitched the idea of a Community movie during the cast’s virtual reunion table read in May 2020. This initiative marked his return to the show for the first time since his departure during season 5.

In the meantime, fans can catch Donald Glover’s brilliant portrayal of John Smith in Prime Video’s reinvention of the 2005 action comedy Mr. & Mrs. Smith. In this freshly imagined series, Glover stars alongside Maya Erskine, both playing new agents who are assigned to portray a happily married couple, unfolding a thrilling narrative. Prime Video users can enjoy episodes of Mr. & Mrs. Smith starting February 1.
