In 2016, Dana Sarkar took over the management of the Windows Insider Program from Gabe Aul. Now she will take on a newly created position in the group. This emerges from a message from Sarkar on Twitter. She had worked for a long time in the Azure team as an advocate of the Power Platform, Microsoft’s foray into low-code / no-code programming, and will now take on the accessibility area with this approach of making technologies more user-friendly.
She announced: “I’m changing roles at Microsoft.” She is honored to lead accessibility technology for the entire company. She also gave an outlook on what she will do more precisely in the future. She sees herself as an influencer who will spur the individual product teams on to develop further AssistiveTech, ie technologies that are “more easily accessible, user-friendly and innovative than ever before”. The focus is not only on physical disabilities. It’s also about neurodivergence and mental health.
Accessibility
The subject of accessibility and the associated inclusion of people with disabilities is a big topic for Microsoft. As early as 2018, the group launched the Xbox Adaptive Controller, which makes it easier to play games with the console, even for those with physical disabilities. In the future, Sarkar will be responsible for such projects across the group and will support all individual divisions in an advisory capacity.
