Don Gnocchi leaves San Donato: the clinic in via Sergnano closes

San Donato (Milan) – The Don Gnocchi Foundation leaves San Donato. The news has been in the air for a while and now the official confirmation has arrived: the activities currently carried out in the clinic at number 2 in via Sergnano, inside the city’s socio-health centre, will be transferred elsewhere. The decision of Foundation was born from the need for “organisational optimization”, as stated in a joint note from the Don Gnocchi institution itself and the Municipality of San Donato, owner of the premises which now host the service. The people of San Donato will therefore no longer have the rehabilitation, physiotherapy and neuropsychiatry courses available, just a stone’s throw from home, for which, in the short term, it will be necessary to travel out of the ordinary.

“We express our closeness to the patients of San Donato Milanese – he declares Antonio Troisidirector of the Northern Territorial Area of Don Gnocchi – but, at the same time, we would like to reassure them because the continuity of the care will be guaranteed by the widespread territorial network of the Foundation, and in particular by the nearby clinic of San Giuliano Milanese, where the same services are provided and where there is a complete team of specialists, like the one now at work in San Donato. Furthermore, we would like to specify that home services, i.e. specialist visits, physiatry and rehabilitation, will continue without any change, either in their number or in their quality level”.

“Aware of the impact that the transfer of outpatient services from San Donato would have had on our citizens – explains the mayor of San Donato Francesco Squeri -, we started a dialogue with the Foundation to try to prolong their presence in our territory. Unfortunately, a solution could not be found. In taking note of their decision, however, we were reassured by the reassurances regarding the continuity of care for the patients assisted so far in via Sergnano. Relations with the Foundation, naturally, will continue with the aim of evaluating new forms of future collaborations”.

The announced one closure has not failed to raise controversy from users and citizens, who will now have to travel, at least a few kilometers, for treatment. Minority city councilors Gina Falbo and Gianfranco Ginelli were also interested in the issue, having submitted an urgent question to the city hall on this issue at the beginning of the month.
