Take part in the most famous marathon in the world, celebrate a birthday and start the honeymoon, all in one day. Former biathlon star Dominik Windisch will remember this Sunday for a long time.

Kenyan track and field athletes Evans Chebet and Sharon Lokedi won the New York Marathon on Sunday. With a time of 2: 08.41 and 2: 23.23, they left around 50,000 competitors behind, including Dominik Windisch and his wife Julia Pörnbacher.

Probably the two newlyweds from Val Pusteria were only marginally interested in this, because they realized a dream long cherished by their life in the most beautiful marathon in the world. After 42.195 kilometers from Staten Island via Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx to Manhattan, the two crossed the line together exactly after 4: 07.13 hours. In the final ranking 11,726 and 11,727 were placed.

After the run, Windisch had to take another deep breath to blow out the candles on his birthday cake. Exactly this Sunday the 2019 world champion and three-time Olympic medalist turned 33 years old.

After crossing the finish line and the birthday party, there was another reason to be happy: Windisch, who now works as a biathlon coach on the national team, and his veterinarian Julia went on their honeymoon soon after! In Costa Rica, the two will recover from the fatigue of the marathon and enjoy their union, the sea and the sun.
