The Dominican Republic team made history this Saturday, August 17, by achieving its first victory, three sets to one, over Canada (25-21, 18-25, 25-18 and 25-11) at the start of the First World Championship in the U-17 category, which is being held in this city.
The offensive attack of the winners was led by Estel Santos with 19 points, followed by Cristal Mercedes with 11, as well as Rayni Mondesí and Yamil Moya with 10 points.
In the losing effort, Ana Stojanov led the way with 16 points, Brooke Fermnaniuk scored nine and Nikola Gamlin only contributed seven points.
The match was part of Group A and is an event organised by the International Volleyball Federation.
The Dominicans will face Brazil this Sunday, August 18 at 5:30 p.m. where they will seek their second consecutive victory.

However, the Caribbean team did not lose heart and narrowed the gap on the scoreboard when they went ahead 10-8 and never lost control of the scoreboard until the set and the match.
