(CNN) — The government of the Dominican Republic reported that it donated thousands of doses of covid-19 vaccines Honduras and Guatemala. And he also announced a delivery of vaccines to Haiti.
The Dominican Foreign Minister, Roberto Álvarez, reported this Monday that the country will donate a total of 505,000 doses to support the nations of the region that have not been able to advance in the immunization process due to the delay on the part of the distributors.
Álvarez explained that the measure seeks to help sister countries, affected by the “unfair and unequal” international distribution of vaccines.
The first batch, of 101,000 doses from the pharmaceutical AstraZeneca, was delivered this Monday at the Las Américas International Airport, in Santo Domingo, to the government of Honduras.
Another batch of 304,000 doses of covid-19 vaccines was donated to Guatemala.
Álvarez explained that the government of the Dominican Republic plans to deliver 100,000 doses to Haiti, which is one of the nations furthest behind in the immunization process.
According to official figures, the Dominican Republic has contracted 35 million doses of vaccines with different pharmaceutical companies. And about 20 million doses have reached the country, of which almost 11.3 million have already been applied.
