President Luis Abinader affirmed today that the best tribute to the founders of the Dominican Republic is to continue building a superior future, when appearing before the National Assembly for his last accountability.

On the occasion of commemorating the 189th anniversary of National Independence this Tuesday, the president summarized the achievements of his Government from February 27, 2023 to date and affirmed that change is an irreversible reality.

Abinader stated that it is the duty of Dominicans to keep the flame lit of the work of the country’s founders and perfect it, and in his case, as president, “leave a better country than the one he found” in 2020.

The dignitary considered that progress has been made, and to support his statement he mentioned that during his administration the economy grew an annual average of 6.43 percent from 2021 to 2023 and last year the expansion was 2.4 percent, despite the difficult situation. economic in the world.

He pointed out that the country became the seventh economy in the region and explained that this progress was achieved despite the fact that it was necessary to adopt restrictive measures to control inflation.

He stated that the country’s reserves are at a historical record and the country inspires confidence, as demonstrated by the four thousand 381 million dollars of foreign direct investment and the more than 10 million visitors in 2023 for the first time.

He pointed out that the minimum wage rose more than 40 percent and the coverage of public services was expanded like never before, a basic education that is being strengthened and technical and university education, which, he noted, is experiencing an unprecedented extension.

In another moment of his accountability, he highlighted that the Government has allocated 147 billion pesos (about two thousand 500 million dollars) to assist the most vulnerable and trade on the border.

He explained that social subsidies have been expanded, which to date have benefited 1,550,000 families, while 1,511,000 households receive the Aliméntate subsidy, which is 1,650 pesos per month (about $28).

The president referred to other subsidy programs, such as Bonogás Hogar, for the purchase of liquefied petroleum gas, and Bonoluz, for the payment of electric energy, an initiative that benefits 536,117 families.

In his report to Congress, he detailed that the Learn and Advance bonuses, for families with children who attend basic and secondary levels, are being delivered to 201,779 households.

He also reported that in October of last year the border bonus was activated to help small merchants on the border, as part of the measures to address the impact generated by the temporary closure of trade with neighboring Haiti.

Among other achievements of his administration, he referred to the support and strengthening of the productive and agricultural sector, the growth of companies in free zones, attention to the development of the southern region of the country, energy policy and environmental protection.
