The recent celebration of the cultural event “Uniting Cultures to the Rhythm of Our Music” by the Dominican American Chamber of Commerce (D/CA) commemorated the independence of the Dominican Republic and had as its main objective to highlight the importance and impact of diversity culture in the city.

“We celebrate our heritage, our heart, our businesses, we also have the rhythm of our music, and other cultures are paying tribute to us, which are Salvadorans, Puerto Ricans, Ecuadorians, which are Mexicans, and we even have ‘Rumenian’ here,” said Maria Khury, chief executive officer of DAChamber.

The vibrant meeting, which began with a merengue dance, brought together prominent figures from the community.

“We are here with the Chamber of Commerce that contributes a lot to the local economy, to the economy of Upper Manhattan, and of the city of New York and we are celebrating all that, everything that the good people of small businesses do, the companies , the professionals who contribute daily to the city of New York,” said Congressman Adriano Espaillat.

“For me it is a pride to be Dominican, I was born in the Dominican Republic and since I arrived here in the 90s, I am seeing the difference and the growth of this population, but not only in commerce, but also in politics and government , and it makes me proud,” said Bronx Borough Vice President Janet A. Peguero.

During the event, Pirate Chef was honored as “Member of the Year” and the launch of a special program intended to benefit chamber of commerce members and encourage the growth of local businesses was announced.

Artist Indira Rubiera performed the National Anthem in a special way, highlighting the crucial role that music plays in uniting different cultures.

Puerto Rican salsa singer Frankie Negrón was also present and delighted the audience with his voice.

“We are in the independence week of the Dominican Republic, so for me, as a colleague of all Dominicans here in New York, being Puerto Rican, for me humbly, I feel proud to be able to represent all Latinos and the Caribbean” Negron said.

And although Independence Day is on February 27, but in Dominican style, it is celebrated throughout the month of February, those present said.
