“We call the senator Bautista Rojas and other groups, that due to ignorance do not politicize the vaccine against African swine fever (ASF), and stop looking for press and media sound with such a sensitive issue for life and pig production in the Dominican Republic “. wrote the Dominican ambassador in Vietnam, Jaime Francisco Rodríguez.
The diplomat’s reaction occurred this Wednesday after Free Daily publish a resolution proposal submitted by the legislator for the Hermanas Mirabal province in which he requests the interpellation of the Minister of Agriculture, Limber Cruz, to explain the swine fever in the country. In addition, he said that the Dominican Republic has accepted the use of a vaccine that comes from the Asian continent, specifically from Vietnam, “without being approved in Dominican swine farming.”
Rodríguez suggested that the resolution proposal be withdrawn because in his opinion it is an unwise call for interpellation, to the Minister of Agriculture. “We call for common sense, objectivity and respect for science,” says the diplomat’s communication.
It states that “the present government has effectively accompanied the pig sector, implementing policies, financial support, comprehensive biosecurity and constant education.”
“Now we are in a big way to solve this serious evil, and develop the production of meat pigs in optimal health and quality at higher levels. The NAVET-ASFVAC vaccine is highly validated and certified, it is to be applied to meat pigs from 6 to 10 weeks of development. It is totally safe”, says the ambassador.
He maintains that this vaccine does not spread ASF, nor is it a new strain, “quite the contrary, it contributes to eradicating ASF, by creating effective antibodies against ASF in meat pigs and that it can be applied to all types of farms small, medium and high production standards”.
“It is only requested to comply with the prospectus for the application of the vaccine,” adds the letter sent to Free Journal.
Likewise, it indicates that, in the Dominican Republic, an execution plan has been developed on a smaller scale, complying with all the biosafety protocol, where identification rings are placed on each vaccinated pig, to take samples after 29 days, take it to the laboratory and reconfirm the safety and effectiveness of the vaccine, with the antibodies that it enables in pigs vaccinated against African swine fever (ASF).
“That is why the NAVET-ASFVAC vaccine produced by Vietnamese and American scientists, widely certified, validated by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam and the Ministry of Agriculture of the United States and other prestigious national and international institutions, with evidence of effectiveness in more than 93%, unique in the world, we are inoculating it on a smaller scale, to generate all the corresponding laboratory evidence, and from there, apply it on a larger scale, towards 100% to meat pigs, in order to advance toward declaring the Dominican Republic free of swine fever Africa (PPA)”, refers the ambassador.
