Dominic Koepfer was left behind at the start against Tallon Griekspoor.
Dominik Koepfer lost after 2:25 hours in a match that could very likely have ended in the German’s favor. In the first set both players were stable for a long time, but after the 5:5 they exchanged breaks, so that Koepfer, who served to win the set, still had to go into the tiebreak.
In this, however, the 52nd in the ATP ranking acted too incorrectly and only scored two points of his own. In the second round, the vulnerability increased on both sides, so that the number of breaks increased significantly. This gave Dominik Koepfer the chance to equalize the set at 5:4, which the 29-year-old took advantage of with the third break ball.
No chance for Koepfer in the third set
The deciding set also started with a loss of serve. And Tallon Griekspor then used this as a basis for a more stable performance. The Dutchman quickly led 5-1 after the next break and thus decided the game early.
The 25th in the world rankings will now face the winner of eleventh-seeded Alex de Minaur and the long-running favorite Stan Warinka, who has a wild card, in the second round of the Masters in the Mediterranean. Certainly a task that will require greater consistency, the match should also have a positive outcome.
