Domincan Lieutenant and Veteran NYPD Officer Attacked and Injured in Subway Station

After the attack, Dominican lieutenant, veteran NYPD officer, Gypsy Pichardo was left with deep cuts on his left cheek and eyebrow.

The eye was swollen from the strong blows he received on Saturday, November 11, inside a subway car, at the 238th Street and Broadway Avenue station.

In the video you can see how two individuals hit him repeatedly both in the body and in the face, but the criminals also used a knife and a razor or cardboard cutter to lacerate the uniformed man.

“Very bad, very bad. There is no respect for authority. Imagine with the authority that you have all these implements to defend yourself. If there is a police officer who is on duty, that happens to him, don’t tell us,” said Jairo Chuquitarco.

According to the official NYPD report, the uniformed officers were responding to a call from a line 1 train driver, who warned that four individuals were in a dispute with another group and that they were possibly armed with sharp objects.

Upon arrival, the police ordered them to stop, but instead of obeying, two of them began to violently attack Lieutenant Pichardo, without caring that he was in uniform and armed.

Sammy Ravelo, a former police officer and the victim’s former boss, knows very well the dangers that police officers face.

“It’s a difficult job. There are many police officers who don’t know if they’re going to get home that night,” Ravelo said.

In the video you can see Lieutenant Pichardo, even with his injuries, chasing the individuals to arrest them, who were finally detained by other officers.

The individuals have been identified as Marquise Webb, 24 years old, and Brian Innocent, also 24 years old.

“No, no, they can’t let them go. It’s attempted murder. When you cut a human being that’s attempted murder,” said Rómulo Martínez.

The injured police officer was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital, where his injuries were treated and he is in stable condition.

“Imagine a civilian who had been there, maybe he didn’t make it out with his life. So the officer was lucky because he has more officers who come to his rescue, but ordinary people don’t get that opportunity to call the police so immediately. Watching That video makes me sad,” Ravelo added.

And now the criminals face charges ranging from assault on a police officer, criminal possession of a weapon and resisting arrest in the Bronx.
