In the US, all domestic flights have to be blocked until 15:00 Dutch time due to a computer malfunction. According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the NOTAM system crashed. A NOTAM is a communication containing essential information for pilots about flights.
We are working with man and power to restore the system, says the FAA. At the moment it is not possible to say how long it will take.
More than 1,200 flights from US airports have been delayed and more than 100 flights have been cancelled.
Schiphol reports that the airport is unaffected by the malfunction. “Flights to the United States will simply disappear,” a spokesperson said. Also the air traffic control of the Netherlands does not report any consequences for flights to and from the USA for the moment.
