Commenting on the idea of introducing compulsory vaccination, the deputy emphasized that it could not be imposed on children under any circumstances. It follows that, in the NA’s view, discussions on compulsory vaccination of children should not be initiated under any circumstances.
On the other hand, certain professions, which are mainly encountered by the elderly, can be discussed. At the same time, the politician mentioned that seniors are the most at-risk group, not young people, so priority should be given to seniors and the chronically ill.
He said that at the national level, almost all people at risk should be vaccinated at virtually 100%. The politician referred to the Israeli experience, saying that the spread of Covid-19 has now resumed there, despite the coverage of vaccination, but the number of fatal and seriously ill cases there is very low.
Dombrava stated that priority should be given to off-site vaccination, home vaccination, as well as to motivate seniors and chronically ill patients to receive Covid-19 vaccine by all possible means. According to him, this would be a way out of the crisis.
Meanwhile, when asked to comment on whether she would agree to compulsory vaccination of teachers, Dombrava stated that she thought that the right approach would be not to segregate professions, but to vaccinate the above-mentioned population groups – elderly people and patients with chronic diseases without dividing whether it is a primary school teacher or university lecturer.
It has already been reported that a week ago the Cabinet of Ministers agreed that the employer will have the right to dismiss an employee who has not obtained a Covid-19 certificate by September 15. Ministers also agreed that vaccination will be mandatory in medical, social, educational and other institutions.
The government also supported that the Ministry of Justice, in cooperation with the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Welfare, the Ministry of Economics and the Ministry of Finance, prepare amendments to the Covid-19 Infection Management Law by 14 July, subject to a number of conditions. The ministries involved in the development of the draft law have been instructed to assess the compliance of the above requirements with the Satversme.
