Earlier this week, it was announced that American country singer Dolly Parton (76) chose to withdraw her nomination to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Every year, a small number of people are included in the prestigious gallery in an inauguration ceremony that takes place in New York, something the artist herself felt she did not deserve.
In a post on Instagram, Parton wrote that she was extremely flattered and grateful to have been nominated, but that she did not feel that she deserved to be included in the gallery. Therefore, she wanted to withdraw from the competition and cancel the nomination.
Makes trouble in the voice system
In a statement shared three days after Parton’s speech, however, the foundation announces that they will not take the “Jolene” singer off the ballot in 2022.
The reason for this is explained in a long Instagram post, where it appears that the voting is already underway. Withdrawing the nomination will thus lead to complications, and the foundation writes that it will be up to the voters to decide from here.

“All of us in the music scene have seen Dolly Parton’s humble statement expressing her feeling that she did not deserve the right to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In addition to her incredible talent as an artist, her humility is another reason why Dolly is a beloved icon by millions of fans around the world »it says in the post.
Furthermore, the foundation writes that the nominations were sent out earlier this month, and that they are proud to have Parton among this year’s nominees.
At the time of writing, the 76-year-old is in fourth place among the 17 nominated artists, behind Eminem, Duran Duran and Pat Benatar.
– Feels out of place
Following the foundation’s decision not to remove her nomination, Parton visited the talk show “Fox & Friends” on Thursday morning. There she said that she thinks the rest of America has the same opinion as her considering that the nomination is wrong.
– I feel that there are better artists for people in the category of rock music. I have taken an education in recent years, and there is more to it than just feeling I deserve it, she said.
– It would be like putting AC / DC in the Country Music Hall of Fame, and it just feels a little out of place for me, she added.

The voting takes place with the help of more than a thousand artists and other members of the music industry. In addition, it can also be voted on through the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s own website.
This year’s selected artists who will be included in the gallery of honor will be presented in May 2022.
