Rome, Italy. Italian luxury brand Dolce & Gabbana has launched a perfume for dogs for over a hundred dollars, which has been criticised by animal rights organisations because it could disturb their behaviour.
“Inspired by Domenico Dolce’s unconditional love for his faithful dog Fefé, this delicate alcohol-free blend combines the fresh and delicate scents of ylang ylang flower, musk and sandalwood,” the Italian stylists’ website detailed.
“A tender and captivating fragrance designed for a fun beauty routine,” says the website about this perfume that sells for 99 euros (about 108 dollars).
The bottle of this perfume called Fefé has a 24-carat gold-plated plaque that reproduces the paw print of a dog and is accompanied by a necklace with a Dolce&Gabbana medallion.
The international animal rights organization PETA has estimated that “spraying dogs with a product designed to please humans can significantly disturb the animals.”
Dogs “have hundreds of millions of receptors in their nostrils and can smell ten to one hundred thousand times better than humans,” PETA founder Ingrid Newkirk said in a statement.
That is why fragrances sprayed on dogs’ fur “can cause irritation and stress by interfering with their ability to detect other odors in their environment and communicate with the animals around them,” she added.
