Six individuals suspected to be involved in the shooting of Negros Oriental governor Roel Degamo and eight others have undergone inquest proceedings before the Department of Justice. The suspects are now in the custody of the National Bureau of Investigation, and have expressed their willingness to enter the Witness Protection Program. Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla has confirmed that the authorities have made security arrangements for the families of the suspects. However, he added that “we cannot discharge anybody as a state witness at this point in time because we’re still getting the whole story straight.” Remulla revealed that the suspects are cooperating with authorities and giving testimonies about their roles in the incident. The authorities also have evidence, including the firearms used in the killings, that will support the cases that will be filed against the identified masterminds.
