Dogs Found Again at Controversial Breeder in Eersel Despite Ban: Municipality Investigating

Sep 04, 2023 at 11:22 PM Update: 5 hours ago

Dogs have been found again at a controversial breeder in the Brabant municipality of Eersel. The Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) announced in May that the breeder is no longer allowed to have dogs for the time being because the animals were not properly cared for.

In May, the NVWA again removed the last dogs from the breeder, after dogs were also removed in December last year. A council spokesman confirmed on Monday Broadcasting Brabant that dogs have been found at the breeder again.

The municipality of Eersel has so far imposed a penalty of 2,500 euros on the breeder eight times. The breeder would no longer be allowed to operate his business, also because this would not fit in with the zoning plan.

Enforcers of the municipality have now found eight dogs. They were not in the house of the breeder, but were in a company building where dogs were previously housed.

“We are now investigating whether the dogs are kept commercially, or privately, as the owner himself indicates,” says a spokesperson for the municipality Broadcasting Brabant.

She indicates that the municipality is “unpleasantly surprised that dogs have been found again, despite the fact that the order subject to periodic penalty payments was first complied with”. The municipality now checks every week. “We are working closely with other government agencies to see what should be done with these eight dogs.”
