‘Dogs bite seal baby to death on Neeltje Jans’ | Inland

Several seals were resting on the sandbank near the harbor. The stray dogs would have ‘escaped the attention of the owner’ and ran towards the resting seals.

A fight ensued between the dogs and a young seal. At one point the owner took her dogs away, but that was too late. In the evening the same seal was found dead with bite wounds.

The incident is being investigated by the Regional Implementation Service of the Province of Zeeland.

‘Sad’

It is not the first time that a seal has been attacked by stray dogs. In October a seal died in Scheveningen.

The animals often come to rest on the beach. “What is wrong with letting go of your dog, I wonder. Sad, actually ”, replied councilor René Oudshoorn at the time to De Telegraaf. “People also let their children play among them, take selfies. Then I think: things are going well with nature in Scheveningen, let’s take good care of it. ”
