Coco also began fitting soon after and required intensive care by the welfare centre.
It was discovered that Coco was suffering from symptoms of alcohol withdrawal, making him the first dog in England to undergo treatment for alcohol addiction. He spent four weeks sedated to help manage his withdrawal symptoms and reduce his risk of further fits. The centre explains that “physically, Coco seems to have recovered, however, mentally he is still very anxious at times.”
The welfare centre’s Dunroamin Unit provided a homely environment for Coco to recover in away from the main kennels, which the centre believes made a significant difference to his recovery and overall wellbeing. The centre emphasizes that Coco’s situation is heart-breaking, but without their care, he may not have survived his ordeal.
