During the walk, Scott came across human feces in the street. He ate it and walked on again. A few hours later, his owner noticed that the animal was behaving strangely. He wasn’t enthusiastic about anything anymore and just wanted to lie down. Besides, he looked strange in his eyes.
Drugs
After an investigation in the Lieshout Animal Clinic, it became clear what was wrong: the stool he had eaten turned out to contain cocaine and THC. “A combination that can be deadly to dogs,” according to the veterinary clinic.

Scott was referred to the Evidensia Animal Hospital in Geldrop. “He really had a drunken walk when he came in, and was very weak on his legs,” a spokesperson tells EditieNL.
Therapy
The animal has been given a cure with Norit: active carbon that absorbs the toxins. “We let him go home the same evening, but are still in contact with the owner. The dog slept a lot and was lethargic yesterday. But it is getting better.”

It could have ended a lot worse. “Fortunately, he did not have an epileptic seizure. That sometimes happens with these kinds of intoxications. Scott was very lucky.”
Every month
Sadly, Scott is no exception. “We see it with some regularity. Once a month,” says the spokesperson for the hospital in Geldrop. “And that’s just the cases that end up here. Sometimes the complaints are less serious and they go away on their own. Then the owners don’t even notice it. But usually treatment is needed.”
