Dog owners are invited to go for a cultural walk with their four-legged friend in the parks of Riga

For a week now, during the Riga Summer Culture Program, the project “People’s Stories” has been implemented, in which everyone, especially dog owners, are invited to go for a cultural walk through 10 Riga parks, ‘Skaties.lv’ informed the association ”Representative Liene Šternberga.

In the project “Stories of People” in Riga parks, everyone can come across immovable dog sculptures, which hide various stories from the book of the writer Nora Ikstena and the artist Aivars Vilipsons – “The Life of a Dog. Stories and sunsets. ” The narrating dogs are sculptures sitting on benches, created by the sculptor Kristaps Andersons. Each of the sculptures has QR codes, which can be scanned with a smartphone to listen to one audio story told by actress Marija Bērziņa.

Zane Dreismane, project manager

“This cultural project is really heartfelt and it is available to everyone – both the residents of Riga and its guests. We hope that for those who will get to know the project by chance, passing by, we will discover a whole new world, we will be able to encourage you to look at things from a different perspective. In my opinion, “People’s Stories” touches on all aspects of life that are so important to society today – healthy movement, co-creation and the enjoyment of culture, which we have been denied for a long time. “

Each story has its own special emotional tone and reflects some values that are worth thinking about, so each dog sculpture has a unique visual design that has been given to it by one of the artists. The project “People’s Stories” is supported by 10 creative personalities, including both the future artists of “Janis Rozentāls Riga Art High School” and masters already experienced in the art environment – Māris Subačs, Armands Grundulis and Ilizane Grīnberga.

Unfortunately, already in the first week of the event, several exhibits in Riga’s parks have been scratched and damaged, for example, the dog “Pepper”, which was at the Opera Square, will no longer be able to please the walking companions with their story.

The association “Dog with a Mission” invites everyone to report if I assess that any of the dogs in Riga’s parks are being harmed.

A cultural walk map is available for everyone who is interested, which can be viewed digitally on the website www.sunsarmisiju.lv. You can also download the card to print it out and take it with you and your pet to enjoy a cultural walk.

The project is implemented by the association “Dog with a Mission” with the financial support of the Riga City Council. The Latvian National Theater supports the project by providing story recordings.

“Dog with a mission” is an association that implements various projects, sometimes they also solve a social problem. A person’s best friends – dogs – are always involved in the association’s projects, directly or indirectly. It is always important for those involved in “Dog with a Mission” projects to provide some benefit or added value to society.-
