A 20-year-old woman has been sentenced to pay NOK 14,000 in fines, as well as NOK 3,000 in court costs after her dog bit a young boy on the back of the head.
The incident took place in June last year, writes Stavanger Aftenblad. The attack took place at the accused woman’s home and the boy had to get 30 stitches and spend the night in hospital after the attack.
The woman was fined NOK 12,000. She refused to pay this, which led to the case coming up in Sør-Rogaland District Court in November, where the woman was fined NOK 14,000.
The case was appealed to the Court of Appeal, but the appeal has now been rejected.
When rejecting the appeal, the Court of Appeal emphasized, among other things, that the dog had recently been relocated with the defendant, and that a few days earlier it had attacked a man who was visiting.
The newspaper has been in contact with defense attorney Johnny Helleren, who says that this is a special case.
– A submission is not taken to the Court of Appeal without consent, and the Court of Appeal has granted that here. We have disagreed about where the list should be placed for negligence, and the Court of Appeal has come to the conclusion that it should be placed here.
