Dog finally rescued from narrow rock crevice after five days without food and drink | Abroad

The 12-year-old dog named Liza was walking with her owner in Minnewaska State Park Preserve on Oct. 7. Suddenly the little furry creature disappeared from view: she had run into a rock crevice. Park officials came to the scene, but were unable to help the barking dog. There was no other option than to check the animal’s condition with a camera for five days.

On Tuesday, two members of the New Jersey Initial Response Team, a volunteer group specializing in cave rescues, were called in. Volunteer Jessica Van Ord – the smallest of the group – was eventually able to squeeze through the 40-foot (12-meter) gap, all the way to the bottom.

Once she saw the dog, she used a hot dog hanging from the end of the trap to make sure the animal would stick her head into the loop.

As the hot dog hung over the four-legged friend, she stood on her hind legs and poked her head through the loop. “Then we pulled her up and I heaved a sigh of relief as I grabbed her hairy little body. “I’ve got the dog!” I screamed and heard cheers upstairs,” Van Ord said on Facebook.

Except for fear, the animal has nothing left from the adventure.
