It was going to be a record expensive end to the year for married couple Carrie (33) and Clayton Law (34) from Pittsburgh in the US state of Pennsylvania.
It was the local newspaper Pittsburgh City Paper who mentioned the matter first.
It all started when the couple had emptied their savings accounts at the beginning of December, writes The Washington Post.
Hasn’t happened in 20 years
They then kept a total of 4,000 dollars, which corresponds to just over 41,000 Norwegian kroner, at home.
– Never done anything wrong
Unfortunately, it would turn out that the large pile of money was not very safe.
Just 30 minutes after they got home, Carrie hears her husband shout a most unlikely phrase.
«Cecil eats 4000 dollars!!!».

Cecil is the couple’s seven-year-old goldendoodle, who, according to Carrie, has never done anything wrong.
– I remember thinking: “It won’t work”. It felt like I was going to have a heart attack, Carrie tells the local newspaper Pittsburgh City Paper.
Right job
When the shock had worn off, and a call to the vet ruled out the dog needing medical attention, the couple began to collect the pieces left after the very expensive meal.
Had to be euthanized after fireworks
Unfortunately, Cecil had already eaten the lion’s share, so Carrie and Clayton realized that they had a time-consuming, laborious and horrible job ahead of them.
Carrie has shared a video of the entire process on Instagram, and the clip has 11.6 million views at the time of writing.
Found again 37,000
Here Carrie says that over the next few days they managed to find, rinse and piece together 3,550 dollars, almost NOK 37,000, from Cecil’s faeces and a round of vomit.
– There we stood, at the sink, washing crap money and shouting: “Hurrah! Yes! We found one again!”. The stench was really bad, says Carrie.
When the couple spoke to the bank, the staff allegedly said that if they were able to puzzle the notes together, so that enough digits of the serial number were displayed, they could replace them with new ones.
The bank also assured that such dog accidents happen from time to time.
“Whitewashing”
The video is shocking, and over 4,000 have commented on matmora’s Instagram video.
– The puzzle no one wanted to solve this Christmas, writes one.
– This is money laundering, jokes another.

Several have also wondered why they had over NOK 40,000 lying around the house. Carrie has answered that in the comments section.
– We had to pay in cash for a house project, and had just made the withdrawal from the bank. It was on top of a bench. He has never tried to reach up there before, but this time some scent must have made him do it, she writes.
