As with any driver’s license, an exam must be taken. There are two requirements for a dog driver license: the theoretical and the practical. This is how it works.

The dog driving license is a certificate of competence for dog owners and dog owners in Baden-Württemberg will need it soon. This is currently raising a lot of questions among dog owners. Among other things: What if you fail the exam? About it has echo24.de already reported. But how does such an exam actually work? We want to shed light on this question too.

Baden-Württemberg: Dog driving license will soon be mandatory – How does the test work?

There are no uniform rules nationwide. Each federal state decides for itself whether it specifies the dog driver’s license for owners or not. In most cases, clubs and associations then determine which content is queried in the examination. So far, Lower Saxony was the only federal state, but now Baden-Württemberg also wants to follow suit. The German Animal Welfare Association takes a clear position on whether the dog driving license makes sense. In other federal states, on the other hand, a certificate of competence is required for certain dog breeds.

The examination of the dog driving license is mainly about the everyday situations between dog and owner. The most important thing is: The owner should have his dog under controls to such an extent that there are no dangerous situations with other people or animals. To avoid this, the owner must recognize dangerous situations early on and be able to react correctly. The exams can vary from state to state. However, there are always three points in the foreground: expertise of the dog owner, obedience of the dog and social acceptability of the dog.

Dog driving license in Baden-Württemberg: What content is checked?

But what could the dog driving license in Baden-Württemberg look like. If you look at exams in other federal states, it could go as explained below.

The exam consists of two parts: the theoretical and the practical. The theoretical one has to be done before the dog is acquired, the other within one year after the dog has moved in. The owner should have sufficient knowledge about dogs and how they are kept. It is about basic knowledge that helps to keep the dog appropriate to the species, to handle it and to train it properly.

The dog must also be trained. If this is not the case, the master has no control. It is also checked whether the dog is listening to your commands such as “sit” and “sit down”. The dog should also not react aggressively when encountering other dogs. And the owner should also be aware of some things, such as using dog waste bags, reports pruefungsratgeber.de

A processing time of 60 minutes is allowed for the theoretical exam. 35 questions from different categories are asked.

  • Social behavior

    Fear and aggression
    Attitude and care
    Racial knowledge

If 80 percent of the questions are answered correctly, the exam is considered passed. During the practical test, the four-legged friend is required to give some basic commands. This includes:
