This is a resounding victory for China, which seeks to impose its “alternative vision” of human rights by infiltrating international organizations. It is a new stab in the back of millions of Uighurs and other Turkish peoples, mainly Muslims, victims of crimes against humanity and genocide in Xinjiang.

A month ago, the United Nations released a report on the “credible evidence” of torture, forced medical treatment and large-scale sexual violence in Xinjiang, and called on the international community to act urgently. On Thursday evening in Geneva, the United Nations Human Rights Council, which brings together 47 countries, rejected a resolution proposing to discuss the issue, trampling the very heart of its mission. Nineteen countries voted against: Bolivia, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, China, Cuba, Eritrea, Gabon, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Mauritania, Nepal, Namibia, Pakistan, Qatar, Senegal, Sudan, United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan and Venezuela.
