Marc Marquez has threatened to change team if the Honda RC213V is not competitive. His younger brother, Alex Marquez, who moved to Ducati, said that Marc had confided in his bike that there have been no significant changes.
Alex had the chance to talk to his brother after taking the tests in Valencia. Marc Marquez was only able to finish in 13th place after devouring 50 laps. He was 0.644 seconds behind the leading Luca Marini.
The Baby Aliens admits he’s disappointed with the slow pace progress the development of the Honda RC213V.
“We were in the car and didn’t talk about anything. Then I asked him if Honda was trying something new, he said it didn’t work, that’s all. I just told him that Ducati was different,” said Alex quoted by Tuttomotoriweb. Thursday (29/12/2022).
“He’s my brother, I’ll beat him, but I think what the hell if Honda grows, Marc won’t go away,” said Alex.
Alex knew his brother’s concern was understandable. Furthermore, the 29-year-old has been disappointing for two years as he has been plagued with injuries and has been on the operating table more often.
Many interpreted Marquez’s anger as a threat to Honda. Even if the relationship between Honda and Marquez is already mutually supportive.
“I think he can stay because Honda is a team that has always been with him, that waited for him and respected him when he was injured,” said Alex.
“But if the bike isn’t suitable for winning in MotoGP then it’s still possible to start. From my point of view, I decided to change because I needed something new, staying in Honda would mean ending my career” added Alex.
