Hiroshi Nishiura and Kyoto have analyzed that the number of people infected with the new coronavirus related to travel has increased up to 6 to 7 times since the start of the government’s tourism support project “Go To Travel” that started on July 22, last year. A research team of university professors and others published in an international medical journal by the 25th.

In Japan, the infection spread again from July, and it became the “second wave” of the epidemic. Professor Nishiura pointed out that “the second wave had begun to decline by mid-August, but the early GoTo project may have affected the spread of the infection,” and will continue further analysis.

The team analyzed about 4,000 infected people in 24 prefectures, including Shizuoka, Okayama, and Kumamoto, who developed the disease between May and August and had detailed information such as infection routes and behavior history. Of these, 817 had a history of traveling across prefectural borders or had contact with them. We compared the number of infected people from June 22nd to July 21st before the start of “Go To Travel” and after the start.

As a result, the number of infected people per day has tripled since the start. It was about 1.5 times larger than the period immediately before July 15-19, including weekends. Furthermore, the number of people infected for sightseeing rather than business trips was up to 6.8 times, and compared to the previous period, it was about 2 to 3 times. 〔Joint〕
