Does Insomnia Affect Your Heart Health?

Professor Yuri Belnikov, a cardiologist, member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, revealed how bad sleep affects many organs and systems of the body, especially the heart and blood vessels.

Belnikov explains that it is necessary to value sleep, because its importance for heart health is nothing more than regular physical activity and a healthy diet. And because insomnia is not just a person’s condition, but rather a step towards contracting a variety of diseases, according to “Russia Today”.

Most importantly, he adds, sleep problems can cause high blood pressure, coronary heart disease, and an irregular heartbeat. “The most prominent manifestations of insomnia are stroke and, of course, heart failure,” she says.

The academician points out that the causes of poor sleep are: uncomfortable bedding or sleeping conditions, and says, “The bedroom shouldn’t be hot.”

“It also affects sleep quality, frequent changes in sleep position, stress, depression and poor diet. Therefore, to sleep well, you should always go to bed at the same time, even on holidays,” he says.
