A recent study revealed that people’s voices can be indicative of their physical and mental health.
In a study recently published in the Journal of Voice, experts said that those with a sad voice were more likely to be depressed.
The study was conducted on more than 2,000 people, ranging in age from 19 to 80 years, to analyze their voices and find out what their voices reveal about their physical and mental health.
While a person’s voice indicates their physical health, researchers have found that voice can also be a strong predictor of mental health.
German researchers found that people with a wider vocal range were more open and happy with life, while those with a monotonous or flat voice were more likely to be depressed.
It comes as recent data suggests that one in six Britons suffers from depression.
According to data from the Office for National Statistics, the rate of depression among those over 16 years of age is higher than it was before the coronavirus pandemic and before the lockdown measures.
According to the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance, in some cases depression can lead to suicide, and those who suffer from depression are up to 20% more likely to take their own lives.
