The Los Angeles Dodgers will play this Wednesday on the brink of elimination against San Diego. Dave Roberts does not have star pitchers and will opt to have a bullpen game in Game 3 of the Division Series.
The team can use Jack Flaherty, but only thinking about the hypothetical game 5 that would be next Friday at Dodger Stadium. Landon Knack would be the starter, but each inning would be a different situation of which pitcher is appropriate.
“What’s done is done. At this point it’s simple, it’s winning two games,” Shohei Ohtani said after the loss to the Padres in the third game of the series.
The bullpen worked in a great way in game 2. After Walker Buehler’s outing of 6 runs in 5 innings, the bullpen did not allow runs in 3.0 innings, 4 strikeouts, no hits and no walks.
Pitchers like Blake Treinen, Evan Phillips, Daniel Hudson, Michael Kopech, Alex Vesia and Ryan Brasier will be responsible for giving the Dodgers the opportunity to return home for a Game 5.
Landon Knack allowed 4 runs on 5 hits, with 1 walk and 4 strikeouts in 4 innings against the Padres in his only start on September 29.
Dodgers wait to see Miguel Rojas’ injury
In addition to the pitching situation, Miguel Rojas was injured in game 3 showing signs of an injury that has bothered him at the end of the season. The Venezuelan is likely not able to be there for this game.
This Tuesday, Roberts decided to give Andy Pagés a chance, but he had no success with the bat. Kike Hernández could replace him for Game 4 and give the shortstop to Tommy Edman.
The last time the Dodgers were able to lift a series from the brink of elimination was in 2020. On that occasion they were 1-3 against the Atlanta Braves in the Championship Series. They then won three in a row and ended up winning the World Series against Tampa Bay.
