San Diego, California.- The Dodgers (63-45) scored five runs in the eighth inning and three in the ninth to beat the Padres (54-56) 10-5 in the first of four games they will play at Petco.
In the eighth inning, the Dodgers overturned the three-for-two deficit that persisted on the board with the five scores that made a difference.
During that inning came a RBI double by David Peralta, walks with the paths congested to Chris Taylor and JD Martinez, followed by a two-run RBI single by Amed Rosario.
James Outman drove in Los Angeles’ first two runs, hitting a solo homer in the second inning and a single in the seventh. Will Smith, in the ninth, doubled the Dodgers’ lead when David Peralta popped out to drive in the ninth and Chris Taylor’s single for the tenth.
For the Padres, Trent Grisham had RBI singles in the sixth and eighth innings, while Luis Campusano produced a hit in the fourth.
Ryan Brasier (3-0) pitched a game-winning inning. Despite giving up a home run to Juan Soto in the ninth inning, Evan Phillips earned his 14th save with 1 1/3 innings.
Robert Suárez (1-1) was rocked for two hits and gave up three walks in losing with five runs allowed.
This Saturday at 5:40 p.m., the Padres announce Blake Snell (8-8) as the starter. For the Dodgers there is still no defined opener.
