It emerges from documents such as the British newspaper The Guardian has obtained.
The documents come from a meeting of the Russian Security Council in January 2016.
The meeting was attended by President Vladimir Putin, Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev and Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. The leaders of the three Russian intelligence agencies were also present.
Everyone agreed that it would be to Russia’s advantage if Trump won the election.
A Trump victory could, among other things, contribute to social unrest in the United States. Having Trump in the White House would also mean that Russia would have a simpler US president to negotiate with.
At the meeting, the three Russian intelligence organizations were told to find out how they could best support Trump.
The document is signed by what is supposed to be Putin’s signature, the newspaper writes.
Characterizes Trump
The documents, which are stamped secret, state that the Kremlin believes that Trump is the preferred candidate.
He is described as impulsive, mentally unstable and with large inferiority complexes.
It is also stated that the Kremlin is sitting on material that can put Trump in a bad light. This is supposed to be material taken from Trump’s previous trips to Russia.
The documents also refer to “special events” when Trump visited Moscow. The Security Council can read more about these details in one of the appendices, it is stated in the documents. What is in the appendices is not known, according to the newspaper.
“It is urgently necessary to use all possible force to facilitate that he [Trump] will be elected to the post of President of the United States, “the document reads.
This will help Russia achieve its goal of weakening the United States. The documents state that a Trump victory “will definitely lead to the destabilization of the US sociopolitical system” and that hidden dissatisfaction may come to the surface.
Unusual leakage
Western intelligence is said to have known about the documents for a few months, writes The Guardian. According to the newspaper, it is unusual for such documents to be leaked from the Kremlin.
The Guardian has shown the documents to independent experts, who believe they are genuine.
The documents suggest that the overall goal was to find ways Russia could respond to US sanctions, which were introduced after Russia took control of the Crimean peninsula in 2014.
The Kremlin rejects
According to the newspaper, there is no doubt that the meeting of the Security Council took place. An official photo from the meeting shows Putin at the end of the table.
According to a press release, the topic of the meeting was the economy of Moldova.
Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov rejects what comes out. He says the idea that Russia’s leaders should have met and agreed to support Trump in early 2016 is not rooted in reality.
Putin has repeatedly refused to interfere in Western democracies.

He believes those behind it are crazy people on the left who are doing what they can to degrade everyone on the right.
