American cinemas will screen a documentary about Sister Legere’s story starting August 11. The Franciscan nun died in 2020.
(Vatican News Network) Movie theaters in Los Angeles, Chicago and New York have screened a documentary about the deeds of Franciscan nun Maria Rosa Leggol since August 11. Sister Legere is a Honduran who grew up in an orphanage and spent her life caring for orphans and abandoned children in Honduras.
In 1964 she opened the first orphanage in Honduras, and in 1966, she founded a non-profit organization there: “Society of Friends of Children”. The Sister Legere, known as the “Mother Teresa of Honduras”, died of the new crown virus in 2020. The diocese-level trial process for her beatification case has begun.
Sister Legere has opened more than 500 children’s homes throughout Latin America. Her work has a holistic perspective. She not only changes the lives of the children she receives by opening children’s homes, but also creates employment opportunities for these children’s families and communities through advanced entrepreneurial and educational projects. In addition, she also set up clinics and medical associations to provide medical services for them.
Sister Legere cared for and served her compatriots all her life, taking care of their body, mind and dignity. No matter whether it was a dictatorship, a military coup, or natural disasters, her service projects could not be interrupted. She dedicated herself to the last moment of her life, until the corona virus took her life. She was 93 years old at the time.
The documentary about Sister Legere was screened at the Vatican last year and will be available on video-on-demand starting Aug. 15.
