Doctor’s tips before injecting the COVID-19 vaccine

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Before it is your turn to get the COVID-19 vaccine, there are several things you need to prepare, one of which is a fit body condition.

Ronald Irwanto, a Specialist in Internal Medicine, Consultant for Tropical Diseases and Infections at Pondok Indah Hospital – Puri Indah and Pondok Indah Hospital – Bintaro Jaya, recommends that you ensure that your body is not in a state of fever, cough, cold when it’s time to get vaccinated.

“Make sure you are mentally prepared, think positive, and stay optimistic. If possible, it is best to wear short sleeves when vaccinated to make it easier for health workers to administer the vaccine,” he wrote during an interview by ANTARA via electronic message.

The same thing was also stated by a pulmonary specialist, Sylvia Sagita Siahaan. He said, in addition to being in a fit body, vaccine recipient candidates must also meet a number of other criteria, one of which includes the age of 18-59 years.

“We must first know whether the priority candidate for the vaccine or not, have comorbidities or not, aged 18-59 years. Specific tips meet the criteria first and when vaccinated candidates are fit,” he said.

You also need to understand the instructions of health professionals when you are at the vaccine site. Irwan said, giving the COVID-19 vaccine is the same as vaccines in general, namely by injecting a small needle into the area deltoid or the outer arm muscles.

Before being vaccinated, you will be asked to pull out the sleeve and the health worker will perform a sterilization procedure (the act of rubbing the area to be injected with alcohol).

“You will then be given a signal to be injected, a vaccine needle inserted in the area deltoid, then the vaccine is administered. After that the needle is removed again, followed by rubbing the alcohol back into the area that was injected, “said Ronald.

After the vaccine is given, vaccine recipients are advised to wait 30 minutes. At that time, health workers will monitor and ensure there are no post-immunization events (AEFI).

A specialist in internal medicine, consultant allergy immunology at Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital, Iris Rengganis. He revealed that this procedure is common for every other vaccine, not just the COVID-19 vaccine.

AEFI can occur with a variety of symptoms, namely local in nature such as pain from the injection site, swelling at the injection site and redness at the injection site, or systemic such as fever and headache.

People can also experience allergic reactions and this is not unexpected. However, health workers generally have prepared an antidote called an anaphylactic kit.

Ronald recommends that you rest for at least one day after getting vaccinated. Pay attention to the presence or absence of reactions, even though in general the COVID-19 vaccine is safe and does not cause serious events.

After being vaccinated, no special foods or certain sports are prohibited. You can freely consume any food and exercise as long as it is good and right

“So don’t be afraid to be vaccinated, this is our joint effort to fight this COVID-19 pandemic. It should be remembered that after the vaccine, we still have to comply with the health protocols established by the government,” Ronald ordered.
