Doctors Reveal the Nutritional Content of Bear Milk

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

In the midst of the surge in Covid-19 cases, bear milk is being hunted by the public because it is considered to be able to help the recovery process.

Not only that, for a long time the myth surrounding bear’s milk has developed with some people believing that this milk can cure disease, it is even called healthier than other milk.

Community Nutritionist, Tan Shot Yen said that bear’s milk cannot cure various diseases as people believe.

The assumption that bear milk can cure diseases such as fever, flu, cough, or others is just a myth that surrounds bear milk products.

“All this time overclaim the product has never been improved, the public has wrong assumptions, the public’s nutritional literacy is minimal, finally there are beliefs that are formed as public opinion. What should be a myth is turned into truth. On the other hand, scientific facts are completely ignored,” said Tan Shot Yen when contacted CNNIndonesia.com, some time ago.

However, what exactly is the nutritional content in this milk with the white bear logo?

Nutrition specialist Samuel Oetoro said the content of bear’s milk is actually the same as other packaged liquid milk.

“Actually, it’s the same with other milk,” Samuel said when contacted CNNIndonesia.com, Tuesday (6/7).

Samuel explained, bear milk contains calories, fat, protein, carbohydrates, sodium, calcium, magnesium and phosphorus which are good for maintaining health.

But what you need to remember is that the nutritional content is also present in other packaged milk.

If you compare the nutritional content of bear milk and other packaged milk, there is actually no significant difference.

In addition, if you look at the nutritional information of the original bear’s milk, there is no vitamin content listed in the serving size. This could be because the vitamin content in the original bear’s milk is so low that it is not listed.

However, the gold version of the bear’s milk with a smaller can size shows the vitamin content. Some of them are vitamins A, B1, B2, B6, B12, C, D, and vitamin E.

You can also find the vitamin content listed in the gold version of bear milk in other packaged liquid milk.

If the content of bear’s milk is the same as other milk, why do people believe drinking bear’s milk can help cure diseases?

According to Samuel, at the beginning of its appearance, bear milk has a high fat content.

Giving bear’s milk to a sick person will make it fresher because fat can be turned into energy.

“Bear milk has been known to be given to sick people from the start. Why do sick people drink bear milk so it’s fresh? Because in the past, bear milk had a high fat content, more than 30 percent,” said Samuel.

Bear’s milk was introduced in 1906. Its high fat content made bear’s milk then considered to be able to treat sick people.

“Sick people are lazy to eat, with the entry of high fat, fat is converted into energy, so they are fresh again,” said Samuel.

This perception is still believed today. Even though the fat content in bear milk has been reduced so that it is the same as other packaged milk.

High fat content is also not good for health. According to Samuel, in healthy people high fat consumption can increase cholesterol.

“So the benefits of bear’s milk are now the same as other milk, good for health, but not for treating disease,” said Samuel.
