Doctors remove weight from gym inside Manaus patient

An episode that occurred with a patient from Manaus became an article in the scientific journal International Journal of Surgery Case Reports, published last Wednesday. With stomach pains and difficulties in evacuating, the 57-year-old man sought a hospital, where he had x-rays taken. When examining the images, the doctors came across a 2-kilogram gym weight inside the patient.

Titled ‘Management of an unusual rectal foreign body’, the article describes in detail the procedures performed to extract the 20 cm dumbbell from the man’s body.

Under the effect of anesthesia, the patient was taken to the operating room and had the object removed from his body manually, without the aid of instruments such as tweezers.

He was hospitalized for another three days, but had no complications and was released.
