Therefore, RSCM has taken several measures, one of which is to provide integrated services for the elderly, to avoid the increase in dementia sufferers.
This integrated service is said to not only detect and treat people with dementia, but other problems as well. For example, about nutrition, bones and so on, which are usually the complaints of people with Alzheimer’s.
“That’s why we create integrated services, not only for Alzheimer’s but other diseases as well. We bring together all the doctors from RSCM. So integrated services for nutrition and so on, one of which is dementia,” he explained.
In addition, in the treatment of people with dementia, RSCM will conduct special training for carers of patients. This is so that when the patient comes home, she can still receive good treatment.
“The treatment of dementia is not easy, because their behavior towards people is not normal. That’s why we train with the nurses. So when the patient comes home, we don’t let him go. We teach the partner and we will do it. know when he’ll be back in the hospital, “he said
According to him, the RSCM equipment for people with dementia is very sufficient. Not only that, even the manpower for handling is qualified.
“The equipment we have is available. RSCM also has 680 permanent doctors in 167 divisions. We have many doctors and I don’t think there are as many doctors as in other hospitals. So we are very ready (in the treatment of Alzheimer’s),”, has explained.
On the same occasion, Mental Hospital doctor Radjiman Wediodiningrat Lawang, Dr. Yuniar said the conditions in his area regarding Alzheimer’s management were very concerning. Because none of the doctors working in the health center know about dementia.
“In 2008 we interviewed, it turned out that there were no doctors at Malang Public Health Center who knew about dementia,” he said.
This is what is believed to cause many Alzheimer’s patients to not receive treatment, due to the lack of early diagnosis by health professionals in their respective areas.
“In Indonesia, there are about 1.2 million people with dementia, but only 20 percent come to health care facilities. I’m sure there are many in Java,” he concluded.
