Researchers in Spain have listed the food items needed for heart attack patients.
According to scientists, omega-3 fatty acids help to improve the condition of the cardiovascular system and significantly reduce the risk of death after a heart attack.
Conclusions of experts presented in the scientific journal Journal of the American College of Cardiology.
Spanish experts noted that the source of omega-3s is seafood and some plant foods.
Foods that reduce the risk of death after a heart attack include:
- salmon;
- walnuts;
- soya beans;
- linseed oil.
The experts came to this conclusion after conducting a study in which about 1 thousand elderly people who had suffered a severe heart attack became participants.
The foods listed above were included in the diet of the volunteers.
The study lasted for three years. All this time, scientists monitored the health of the subjects.
It turned out that foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids actually reduce the risk of death in case of serious cardiovascular problems.
