Doctors in South Kalimantan reveal the conditions for heart disease patients to be vaccinated against Covid-19

Merdeka.com – The government is aggressively holding Covid-19 vaccinations in an effort to achieve herd immunity. Heart and Blood Vessel Specialist in South Kalimantan (Kalsel), Dinarsari H Putri, said that patients who have heart or cardiovascular disease are recommended to be vaccinated against Covid-19.

According to him, the Covid-19 vaccination in heart disease patients helps prevent infection with the Corona virus and suffer from severe symptoms of Covid-19. However, there are a number of conditions for patients with heart disease in the Covid-19 vaccine.

“In people who suffer from heart disease but whose condition is stable or under control, we recommend that they immediately administer the Covid-19 vaccine,” said Dinarsari, a doctor at Siloam Hospitals Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan, in a virtual discussion held on Wednesday (29/9).

Dinarsari said vaccines are biological products that are given to a person to protect against various debilitating and even life-threatening diseases. Vaccines will help the immune system and fight infection efficiently, by activating the body’s or immune response, remembering viruses or bacteria that carry disease.

Continuing his education in a discussion entitled ‘Covid-19 Vaccines for Patients with Heart Disease’, Dinarsari explained that the Covid-19 vaccination could be given to patients with stable conditions or in controlled conditions.

“From the recommendations of the Indonesian Cardiovascular Specialist Doctors Association or PERKI, it was explained, among other things, that the Covid-19 vaccine could be given to heart patients in a stable condition. This means that the owner of heart disease at that time had no complaints, such as shortness of breath, chest pain, mild activity limitations, palpitations, swollen feet and decreased consciousness,” said Dinarsari.

As for patients with acute cardiovascular disease and who have received optimal management until they recover in a stable condition, the Covid-19 vaccine can be given after 2 to 4 weeks of the acute phase. Meanwhile, patients who have undergone cardiovascular surgery and are declared stable without complications from the Covid-19 vaccine can be given 1 to 2 weeks after the procedure.

“Meanwhile, for patients with hypertension without severe symptoms with controlled or stable blood pressure with ideal 140/90 but also safe limits up to 180/100, the Covid-19 vaccine can also be given the Covid-19 vaccine. stable condition can receive the Covid-19 vaccine,” explained Dinarsari.

Dinarsari appealed to heart patients who will be vaccinated against Covid-19, among others, to consult a cardiologist if necessary. [cob]
