Surabaya (ANTARA) – Head of the Medical Examination Section of Siloam Hospitals Surabaya, dr. Vania Wijaya said that Vitamin D can help reduce the risk of respiratory tract infections and increase immunity.
In a press statement received in Surabaya, Sunday, Doctor Vania said that because of its important role in reducing the risk of respiratory tract infections and increasing immunity, Vitamin D should be considered as a potential option in the prevention and treatment of COVID-19.
“Given this role, it’s a good idea for the community to have regular checks of vitamin D levels,” he said.
He says that the normal range of Vitamin D in the blood is 30 to 50 ng/ml.
If the level of Vitamin D in the blood exceeds 100 ng/ml, it continues, then will cause an accumulation of calcium in the blood (hypercalcemia), whose symptoms include nausea and vomiting; weak, tired, and lethargic; and frequent urination.
Therefore, he also conveyed the importance of checking the levels of Vitamin D in the blood to avoid the effects of excess Vitamin D.
He said that vitamin D intake can be increased by sunbathing, eating foods rich in vitamin D, or taking vitamin supplements.
