Beijing: The doctor who brutally treated an 82-year-old woman who came for an eye surgery was suspended. The incident took place in a hospital in Gugang, China. The footage of the incident that took place in 2019 was widely circulated on social media recently. With this, the authorities took action against the doctor.
Before the surgery, the doctor had prescribed anesthesia for the old woman. In the operating room, the old woman was talking unconsciously. Hearing this, the doctor got angry and hit the old woman’s head three times. Another doctor, I Fen, shared the footage of the incident on social media. Due to this, the doctor’s work faced great criticism.
Before the surgery, the old woman was given anesthesia, but she did not lose consciousness completely. During the surgery, she was constantly moving her head and talking. With this, the doctor warned the patient. But the old woman spoke again. The hospital authorities clarified that this is what provoked the doctor. During the surgery, the old woman tried to touch her eyes. This can cause infection. Authorities added that the doctor hit the patient to prevent this.
After the protest, the doctor was suspended from the hospital. The hospital authorities then paid 500 yuan (Rs 5800) as compensation to the old woman and apologized.
