Gastroenterologist Nikita Kharlov told the Russian channel “Zvezda” why it is dangerous to eat persimmons too often.
–
He explained that excessive consumption of this fruit can lead to the formation of phytobezoars, formations that cause acute intestinal obstruction.
The doctor noted that phytobezoars are formed when a large amount of plant foods are consumed.
“It is due to the effect of the indigestible fiber, which is not absorbed by the body, but passes through the intestine”, underlined the expert.
Kharlov explained that with reduced peristalsis, most often experienced by the elderly or patients with irritable bowel syndrome, any plant food becomes a source of bezoars.
However, the doctor concluded that these formations are quite rare.
