Shocking Theft at Delhi Airport: Gurugram Doctor Recovers Stolen Apple Watch after Confrontation
In a startling incident at Delhi Airport’s Terminal 3, a gurugram-based doctor, Dr Tushar mehta, alleged that his Apple Watch was stolen during a routine security check. The orthopaedic surgeon took to X (formerly Twitter) to share the harrowing details of the theft and how he managed to recover his watch after a tense confrontation.
Dr Mehta recounted that he had placed his Apple Watch in the security tray while undergoing the mandatory check. “The moment I crossed security, I started putting things back into my laptop bag. I could feel that something is missing & I realised I don’t have my watch,” he wrote. when he alerted the CISF personnel on duty, they suggested he recheck his belongings, which he had already done.Sensing something amiss, Dr Mehta noticed a man walking away while glancing back at him. He followed the suspect and found him standing at the Titan Watches Helios store. “I confronted him & forcibly put my hand over his trouser pocket and I could feel the watch,” Dr Mehta said. He managed to retrieve his watch, but the situation escalated when the Helios store employee intervened, behaving oddly and seemingly siding with the suspect.
The doctor alleged that the two individuals knew each other, as the Helios employee attempted to distract him while the suspect fled the scene.Dr Mehta left the store after an argument, only to be confronted by a CISF officer and the Helios employee, who demanded an apology for his ”rude behavior.”
In a twist, Dr Mehta called a senior CISF official, whom he had treated in the past, and put the call on speaker. The officer quickly resolved the situation, allowing Dr Mehta to proceed to his flight.
Delhi Airport responded to the incident on X,expressing regret and assuring Dr Mehta that the matter was being taken seriously.”The theft of your Apple watch and the subsequent events are being taken very seriously. We assure you that we will take this matter up strongly with all relevant parties, including CISF and the concessionaire,” the airport’s official handle stated.
The CISF’s airport security wing has also requested Dr Mehta’s PNR and contact details to investigate the incident further.
Dr Mehta shared his experience to raise awareness among travelers. “Please take care of your belongings at the security once you clear it,” he urged. He named two individuals, Shoaib and Md Saqib, as suspects in the theft.
This incident highlights the need for heightened vigilance at airport security checks and raises questions about the accountability of personnel and concessionaires.
