NEW YORK – A brutal beating, which occurred at 3:00 am Saturday, sent a 29-year-old doctor to the hospital where he underwent emergency surgery to repair a broken jaw.
New York City detectives want to know if the seemingly random attack on Saturday morning was motivated by hatred.
“He called me ——- and then half a block later, he came up behind and kicked and hit me several times,” Sina Rezaie, 29, said from her hospital bed Saturday night to our chain. sister NBC 4.
Rezaie noted that as she was walking home from the subway in Greenwich Village, a man allegedly yelled an insult against the gay community at her. Moments later, the suspect allegedly attacked him violently and broke his jaw.
After falling to the ground, witnesses say Rezaie approached a nearby bar to ask for help. Laurie Beck and Richard Delay were working at the time, they are both friends of Rezaie and did their best to help while they waited for the Police.

Rezaie was taken to a hospital where he underwent emergency surgery that left his jaw closed with screws and metal plates. The victim said he always felt safe in the neighborhood, but wonders why he was the target of the assault that was apparently motivated by hatred.
There are security cameras throughout the neighborhood, but so far police have not caught the suspect.
Rezaie’s recovery will be long. The doctor says that you will have to close your mouth for about a month.
